Andy and Big Steve

Lastest guiding victims Andy and Steve from Auckland got lucky on a stunning Autum day on the Waitahanui. This was Andy's birthday present from good wife Rachael and he brought good mate big Steve along for the afternoon. Andy had never fly fished befor while Steve had been out a couple of times. The first pool we arrived at Andy was given a quick lesson on what to do if he got a fish on, a quick casting lesson and away he went. Second cast the indicator plunges under and we are on to a nice rainbow. Andy does a good job trying to contain the fish and stop it going down around the bend and down a rapid but the fish was to strong and the hook pulled. A few pools later Andy hooked into the nice rainbow jack pictured above. This fish lept clean out of the water acouple of times and put up a great fight, a couple of photo's and released back to continue spawning. Steve's turn, he thought it was a wast of time fishing in the same pool after just catching the jack but a couple of casts later he lands the jacks spawning mate. Well done guys, I think Andy might be in the market for a fly rod and gear now !
