OUR FISHING BLOG

Carl and Phil

Carl ex Taupo and Phil from Albany WA booked me for the quad bike adventure. I picked them up at 7.30 and off we went . They had just spent 2 days fishing the Tongariro. On the ride in we tried a spot of golf ,Phil had the edge over Carl on that one for sure. When we parked the quad we had some bush bashing to do before we got fishing. A short cut we tried turned into a long cut as we got bluffed out and had to retrace our steps. oops. We finally get to our fishing spot, rig up the rods and Carl into a solid rainbow straight away, bust off ,rig up and same again bust off .Up to 8lb line,Phil in the next pool and a nice brown to the net. More rainbows followed, one big bow we missed on the dry, late in the day we came across some nice fish rising, change to a big terrestrial dry, Carl got a great cast in under a tree and up came the bow and devoured the dry, Carl was wrapped with his first rainbow on a dry fly. Phils turn, great roll cast to the other side of the river and a big red rainbow climbs all over the fly, Phil lifts the rod and comes up solid, a few jumps and good strong runs latter and Phil has his first rainbow on a dry. Great way to finish the day. Fish of the day has to be Phils earlier rainbow he caught in the tail. This fish went up a rapid ,reel down to the backing with Phil in hot pursuit .Phil was just getting the line back on the reel when it decided to tear off down stream back to where it had come from. We finally brought the fish to the net and got a good release. Well done on that fish Phil.

Had a great day Brett thanks. In all my travels around the world i have never seen a place quite like the upper Wanganui. Great scenery, great fishing and a very knowledgable guide. I wont forget my last cast of the day in a hurry. I'll be back!
